Acupuncture and Pain Relief

Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture has been practiced for 5000 years. It is a non-invasive, holistic treatment method. Acupuncture is an adjunctive modality and offers a safe, natural and effective way to reduce or eliminate pain. It has been widely researched and supported by national and international health organizations. The way acupuncture works cannot be completely understood in terms of allopathic medicine.
For those wanting a scientifically testable theory, some current hypotheses are:
1. Stimulation of the secretion of the neurotransmitters.
2. Normalization of the autonomic nervous system.
3. Enhancement of the bodies’ electrical system.
4. “Gating out” painful nerve signals
For those who don’t care how it works as long as it does: Qi (pronounced “Chee”), the vital energy or life force, flows throughout the body in pathways called meridians. Qi animates the body and protects it from illnessand pain. When the flow of Qi is blocked by trauma stress or poor lifestyle habits, symptoms of illness or pain develop. Acupuncture can help restore the flow and balance of Qi by relieving pain and enhancing physical and mental health. Will relieving pain take more than one session? Probably. Will it always work? Maybe not. The important thing to remember is that it is absolutely not harmful and is worth trying.
